We know that the sun delivers about 10’000 times more energy than the whole mankind consumes during the same period of time. This sun energy is not only directly usable, but also indirectly by means of perfected heat pump technology.

The heating systems of the SmartHeat Deutschland GmbH use this environmentally friendly energy for your buildings – stored solar energy from the ground from your land, from the water or directly from the air. The heart of this heating system – the heat pump - realizes the direct conversion of the valuable yet free of charge ambient heat all-season in order to use it for the heating system and for the domestic water heating.

So to say, the energy source is inexhaustible. Sufficient energy replenishment in the earth is available e.g. due to solar radiation, melt and rain water – in all weathers. But also other heat sources such as exhaust air, waste water or cooling water among others are best appropriate to be used for heat pumps.

Operations – How does such a system work?

Do you still remember how your refrigerator is working? Heat pumps are working in the same way as refrigerators, only reverse: the heat goes from the outside to the inside. The refrigerator withdraws heat (energy) from the food and emits it into the room at the rear at increased temperature.

The heat pump is basically working in the same way. Only the heat generation which is simply a by-product in refrigerators is the primary aim of a heat pump. The heat is withdrawn from the soil or any other source in a closed circuit and transmitted to the heating system or to the domestic water heating of the building. At this, heat pump "only" increases the temperature.

And a very favorable side effect: Reversible heat pumps can cool in reverse mode, an attractive option, which increasingly finds its grateful followers in Central Europe.

Principle of the heat pump

  • Heat pumps withdraw heat (energy) from a source (ground, process heat, ...) and transmit it to the corresponding heating system
  • Operation of the closed circuit

    • The ambient energy is conveyed to the evaporator,
    • The liquid working fluid / refrigerant is evaporated and at this it absorbs this energy. Is becomes gas.
    • The evaporator sucks the gaseous working fluid / refrigerant in and compresses it. The pressure and the temperature are increasing thereby.
    • In the condenser the working fluid transfers its energy then at higher temperature to the circuit system of the heating system and condenses, i.e. it liquefies.
    • The expansion valve reduces the pressure in the closed circuit of the working fluid and injects the coolant again into the evaporator.

The circuit restarts. The cycle begins anew, again and again - safely and reliably. This technology is demanded by a number of laws (eg. EnEV) and supported by a variety of funding programs.
