German armed forces use geothermal energy at Königsbrück

aeromedical institute Königsbrück

On Wednesday November 24th, 2010, a new geothermal and solar thermal system was handed over at the aeromedical institute of the air force at Königsbrück in Saxonia. At the German armed forces it is only the second system of this kind which was built by the Military District Administrative Office East in its area of responsibility.

This newly built geothermal system which is combined with a system of solar heat collectors should increase the return temperature of the local heating network. The required heat quantity is generated from 30 heat source drillings of a depth of 200 meters each. 30 probes made of high-pressure cross-linked polyethylene material were professionally adjusted at a geothermal surface of about 3’600 square meters. 2 project-specifically designed and individually developed SmartHeat Titan large heat pumps of 126 kW each provide for a flow temperature of 75 °C. Integrated in the central building control system they reliably heat the barracks.
