FAQ

We currently use common HFC mixtures and low GWP refrigerants. Heat pumps with natural refrigerants are currently under development.

How loud a heat pump is depends on its performance, the installation location, the heat source used and the technology. The heat pumps from SmartHeat Deutschland GmbH are usually equipped with sound-insulating housings, which reduces sound transmission and thus ensures that noise pollution is kept to a minimum. The correct installation and selection of the installation location are also decisive factors in avoiding a noise problem.

The conditions for the installation room depend on the type of heat pump. The room should be dry and frost-free and have a smooth and level surface. Further important installation instructions, including for devices installed outside, can be found in the respective operating and assembly instructions on the respective product pages.

Example diagrams can be found in the operating and installation instructions on the respective product pages. Please note that the hydraulic diagrams listed there are only intended as installation suggestions and are not a substitute for technical planning!

There are no legally prescribed maintenance intervals for heat pumps, but annual maintenance is a good idea to increase the service life of the heat pump. We recommend having maintenance carried out in the summer months, as no heating is required during this time and the pump can be switched off for the duration of the maintenance.

Please note the F-gas regulation: Heat pumps with a CO2 equivalent of 5 tonnes or more must undergo an annual leak test in accordance with EU Regulation 517/2014. From 50 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, a leak test is required every 6 months, and from 500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, even every 3 months. When using approved leak sensors, the intervals are doubled to the benefit of the operator.

Maintenance or testing of your heat pump in accordance with the F-gas regulation can be carried out by SmartHeat Deutschland GmbH or by one of our partner companies. If you would like to conclude a maintenance contract for your heat pump, please contact our service team by email at service@smartheat.de or by phone at +49 3843 2279 111.

Technically, this is possible. However, for efficiency reasons, it is better to keep the flow temperature as low as possible. This can be achieved by increasing the heating surface and/or improving the thermal insulation of the building envelope.

The wastewater in Germany contains enough energy to heat 2 to 4 million homes. Such uses can usually make sense for homes with 1,000 inhabitants or more (after the sewage treatment plant) or around 3,000 inhabitants or more (from the sewer). The use of wastewater heat is generally not profitable for single-family homes and multi-family homes.

So-called cascading (connecting several heat generators together) is possible up to very high power ranges.

Several heat pumps can supply one consumer. Similar to modulation, the individual heat pumps can optimally cover the heat requirement. Cascade connection is possible up to very high performance ranges.

There is no general answer to the question of the right source for your heat pump. Every heat pump source has its advantages and disadvantages and the choice depends entirely on the specific circumstances and requirements. Check which heat source is available to you and seek advice from a specialist. The most effective source can usually be found quickly.

Depending on the circumstances, all types of heat pump technology can be used for heating renovation. Often it is the air-water heat pump that is used as a heat source in renovations. The installation of systems with brine-water and water-water heat pumps requires additional expenditure, primarily due to the drilling and installation work.

Heat pumps largely use existing heat from free, natural environmental energy. These are traditional sources such as earth, water and air. An air-water heat pump is characterized by simple and very space-saving installation and is very energy-efficient. It is therefore often the quickest choice for renovation projects.

Heat pumps as energy-efficient and sustainable heating technology meet all of today's energy requirements for heating systems. In 2023 alone, over 350,000 (source: Bundesverband Wärmepumpe e. V.)
