As announced by the BMWi, from 1 July 2017 onwards, systematic support in the area of heat infrastructure will be introduced for the first time with the promotion of "model projects for heating network systems 4.0". Not only are single technologies and components supported, but also overall systems. These fourth generation heaters are distinguished by high proportions of renewable energies, efficient waste heat utilization and a significantly lower temperature level compared to conventional heating systems. The objectives are to minimize losses, increase efficiency and facilitate the switch to renewable energies in local and district heating. Such systems can provide additional flexibility for the electricity market through the combination of heat pumps and seasonal large-scale heat storage.

The measure is used to implement the Energy Efficiency Strategy for Buildings with the measure "Store Window Renewable Energies in Low Temperature Heating Networks". The grant may be requested from BAFA; Further information is available at www.bafa.de.
